This year's DC Design House is an expansive home featuring the work of 24 designers so there will certainly be more posts to follow this one!  First up is the dining room by Nestor Santa-Cruz, with a curated selection of period pieces combined to create a sophisticated space, the perfect backdrop for a lively dinner party.  My favorite moment in the room is the play off the painted screen with the wallpaper panels.

The gray and gold is a beautiful combination and fringe in the same color adds texture and interest.

Andrea Houck completely transformed a bland and basic hallway and builder style wet bar into a stunning space enveloped in Farrow & Ball's London Clay.  Cabinets were removed and replaced with antiqued mirror and the cabinets faux finished in a burl mahogany.

Charles Almonte's powder room is chic and elegant.  Charles chose Farrow & Ball's Lotus wallpaper but instead of the typical white background he went with the gray.  I think it creates a quieter aesthetic while still packing a glamorous punch.  His choice of a horizontal light fixture solved the problem of previous fixtures slightly off center location.

Iantha Carley's morning room is an absolutely wonderful space - warm and inviting.  Patterned wall covering and fabrics blend beautifully together and the light fixture is a true standout.  Notice how she hung this large piece of art above the painted paneling.  Her parents' midcentury chair has a new lease on life with a wonderful plain in a yummy butterscotch.  Morning room, yes - but why not all day?

David Mitchell's Library took full advantage of the existing wood paneling through the harmonious use of different woods and textiles, all tied together with a huge and fabulous Moroccan rug. I love the plant on the table paired with the elevated glass jug.  The coffee table is a wood prototype that will be available in metal.  Two large photographs of gardens flank either side of the window and their foggy quality is a lovely addition to this space.

The 2013 DC Design House is a leading fundraising event for Childrens National Medical Center - a more than worthy cause.  Be sure to check your calendar and plan a visit.  It's open. April 14th - May 12th 2013 2507 Foxhall Road, NW, Washington, DC Hours: Saturdays-Sundays 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesdays-Fridays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  For online tickets go here.

On a personal note, thank you to all of you who left me such supportive comments on the passing of my mother.  I can't tell you how much I appreciated all your kind words.  Love, Michele
