Kitchen Storage - Taking Advantage of Nooks

Nadia Subaran of Aidan Design turned the unusual nooks in this older home of the 2014 DC Design House, into unique and attractive storage. I think it adds a lot of charm and interest to the space.

Notice the light fixtures - in person they were quite charming, almost like glass bowls.

Atlanta's South of Market

While I was in Atlanta this past May, I had a chance to stop in at Kay Douglass' always fabulous South of Market where the vibe is bold - vibrant colors, strong neutrals and lots of texture.  Absolutely in love with all that green!

Wall of Maps

Remember Western Interiors magazine?  It was acquired by Luxe Interiors + Design.  Here's a look back on their feature of designer and showroom owner Dan Marty's apartment - starting first with this amazing display of maps that complement the tone-on-tone bureau and pillows.

Here's some details from the 2014 DC Design House that I thought you might enjoy. These are from the rooms of Nestor Santa Cruz and Kelley Proxmire.  (original post with full room pics and descriptions here)  Love how Nestor hung this plate to give it even more importance.

DIY Hurricane Lamp Bottle

Came across this DIY Absolut bottle hurricane lamp on Jost Van Dyke BVI during our spring break.  (our only daytime shower and we were happily drinking rum at a beach bar)  

Have a bottle cutter and you're good to go.  When I was searching around the web for these, I read a mom had made 100 of these for her daughter's wedding.  Bet they looked amazing all lit.

Just When I Was Getting Bored...

Just when I was getting a little bored I come across something crazy fabulous like these green velvet chairs.   They're fluted too - like the zinc platters from Wednesday's post.  Via The Scout Guide (here) back in 2012 from designer Mary Miller's shop, Abode, in Charlotte NC.

Zinc Platters

Came across these fluted zinc platters and containers  back in 2010 at Wynn Alex in San Francisco  and then recently saw these Zinc Oval Trays from Jayson Home.  Can't tell if it's the color or the fluting that I like best.

A bunch of these trays would make a great display on a kitchen or breakfast room wall.

And, I'd throw in this cute fluted zinc teapot in for good measure.  Somebody should grab this, it's only $10 on etsy.

More Fabric Finds

If you're in the DC area, just wanted to keep you in the loop for new fabrics  that have arrived at Haute Arlington.  I stopped in last week just as a new shipment was coming in of high end fabrics.    Here are some snippets to give you an idea.   The crimson velvet greek key above is incredible.
